Types of Freckles

Ephelides
It is a genetic trait and is used to describe a freckle which is flat, light brown or red, and fades in the winter. Ephelides are more common in those with light complexions, although they are found on people with a variety of skin tones. The regular use of sunblock can inhibit their development.

Liver spots (also known as sun spots and Lentigines)
They are freckles that may not fade in the winter. Rather, they form after years of exposure to the sun.

Lentigines
They are more common in older people.

What are Freckles

Many people with freckles are not comfortable with their appearance though some people do like to have a small amount of freckles on their face which make them look cute.

Freckles can be found on anyone no matter their genetic background. They are flat, tanned circular spots that contain more melanin than other skin cells and are typically the size of the head of a common nail.

Freckles are genetic in nature (look at the picture on the left to see how similar the spread of freckles is from the twin sisters) and are most common in children prior to puberty, though many adults with fair-skin have them.

Freckles are normally found on upper-body skin areas like the cheeks, nose, arms, and upper shoulders. While many children will lose their freckles when getting older, some will have this characteristic throughout their whole lives.
